August Virtual Courses Include All Required Courses for AFS Certified Professional (AFSCP) Designation
For professionals interested in earning the AFS Certified Professional (AFSCP) Designation, all required courses are being offered in August. These include 20 hours of AFS education in three basic filtration courses: Introduction to Air/Gas (8 hours in 4 parts), Introduction to Filter Media (4 hours in 2 parts) and Introduction to Solid/Liquid Separation (8 hours in 4 parts).
The four parts of Introduction to Air/Gas Filtration will be offered on August 2, 4, 9 and 11, and will be taught by Dr. Thad Ptak. The course provides fundamental information on air filtration principles, filter media and filters, applications and testing. More information about each course and Dr. Ptak is available here.
The two parts of Introduction to Filter Media will be offered on August 16 and 18 and will be taught by Dr. Godwin Severa (Hawaii Natural Energy Institute, University of Hawaii). Filter media for solids, liquids and gas separations will be covered as well as filter aids and filter testing. More information about each course and Dr. Severa is available here.
The four parts of Introduction to Solid/Liquid Separation will be offered on August 17, 19, 24 and 26 and will be taught by Dr. Wu Chen (Dow), Dr. Wenping Li (Agrilectric Research), Chris Wallace (Filtration Technology Corp.) and Dr. Lin Zhao (Dow). For Introduction to Air/Gas Filtration and Introduction to Solid/Liquid Separation, the four-course fee is $625 for members and $695 for non-members. Participants can take individual parts for $245 each per member and $295 each per non-member. The two-course fee for Introduction to Filter Media is $425 for members and $495 for non-members, and not offered in individual parts. Individual memberships are $150, with $75 for retirees and $50 for students.
The 20 hours of coursework in these three courses is one of several requirements of the AFSCP designation. Other requirements are detailed on the AFSCP Certification page of the AFS website. The first opportunity to sit for the two-hour exam will be in person at the 13th World Filtration Congress, on October 5 at 9:00 am in San Diego. This exam is not offered virtually.
